Consumer Affairs Victoria Taskforce & Minimum Standards

Consumer Affairs Victoria's renting taskforce has launched its inspection initiative across the state to ensure rental properties comply with mandatory minimum standards.
On Saturday, August 3, the taskforce visited rental properties in Clayton, where more than 60% of homes are rented. This marks the first of several inspections planned in the coming months as the taskforce targets non-compliant properties.
The taskforce team will be conducting inspections of rental properties in Clayton and nearby areas, ensuring they comply with the mandatory minimum standards.
These minimum standards encompass essential features that most people expect in a home, including a functional kitchen, lockable external doors, and overall structural integrity and waterproofing.
At LongView, we are confident in our approach to ensuring that your property meets all legislative requirements. We have a full-time dedicated compliance officer who meticulously oversees our portfolio to ensure adherence to current regulations. Our commitment includes keeping all safety certificates up to date and securely stored and we conduct regular property inspections to identify and address any potential issues before they become problems.
Consumer Affairs Victoria have committed to addressing breaches rigorously. Allowing a new renter to move into a property that fails to meet these standards is illegal, with fines up to $11,000 for individuals and over $59,000 for companies.
Rest assured, our team have your property and best interests at heart and will keep you informed of any updates as they occur.
