How long have you been in Real Estate?
Roughly seven years.

What aspect of Real Estate are you an expert in, or what aspect are you most proud of that you do?
I am quite experienced with VCAT hearings, and I’ve definitely worked through some very hard bond claim situations with Tenants and Landlords over the years. I have a lot of patience and understanding to assist both parties through these processes.

What is the strangest/nicest/most interesting thing you have had to deal with, in your Real Estate career?
I once had a tenant who was sharing a two-bedroom flat with a housemate. The tenant for a short-while convinced the flatmate, that he was ‘just growing some tomatoes’ …. in his bedroom!??

When the housemate finally cottoned-on what the true nature of the plants were, he immediately advised the Agency. While I was carrying out my inspection of the property, the scent of ‘Lynx’ was permeating throughout the house, along with a strong smell of something else quite pungent… however I couldn’t find any plants. The Police were called to investigate, but by then, the Tenant had fled the country! And evidently taken his ‘tomato plants’ elsewhere.

What is the most interesting non-Real Estate job you have ever had, and what about that job has helped you most in your current Real Estate role?
Teaching – the skills you acquire as a teacher absolutely help with the communication and relationships side of Real Estate.

What is the one piece of advice you would give a new Landlord/Vendor/Tenant/Client? A good Tenant is worth their weight in gold! It’s better to be reasonable with the price for a property and find a good Tenant, than list the property for rent at a higher rate and settle for a less than perfect tenant (due to a smaller candidate pool as a result of the higher price).
