How long have you been in Real Estate?
Since May 1988. Just over 30 years.
What aspect of Real Estate are you an expert in, or what aspect are you most proud of that you do?
Experiencing and observing the different micro - macro-economic cycles over the years, I have seen the highs and lows of this industry. Also having purchased, developed, invested and managed properties for myself, I have a good and thorough understanding of most aspects of sales, property management, marketing, developments and property Investment.
What is the strangest/nicest/most interesting thing you have had to deal with, in your Real Estate career?
Towards my first full year of real estate, I met an elderly man 73 years of age, who after showing him 13 properties purchased 3 properties under his accountant’s instructions.
He told me, he owned 33 properties, had been working 6 days a week without a break for 33 years, was thinking about renovating his 33 year old house, was thinking about a 3 week holiday in 3 years’ time, and updating his 23 year old car. I asked him if he was thinking about retiring, and he replied. “I am not entitled to a pension, so why should I retire”.
What is the most interesting non-Real Estate job you have ever had, and what about that job has helped you most in your current Real Estate role?
Public relations with one of Australia’s major hospitality and entertainment companies, dealing mainly with VIP Clients and Organisations.
What is the one piece of advice you would give a new Landlord/Vendor/Tenant/Client?
Be transparent with your representative. Be very clear in your instructions and expectations. Do not refrain from direct communication, it is paramount. Always follow up or request written communication and instructions where you feel the need.
