Antony Cohen was previously a partner at KPMG where he was at various times, Head of Mergers and Acquisitions, Head of Valuations, Head of Industry Restructuring and Privatisation, Head of Energy and Natural Resources and a member of the firm’s Australian Board of Directors.
Antony was instrumental in leading energy market reforms for Governments in a number of countries. Subsequent to KPMG he was CFO and then CEO of the electric vehicle infrastructure provider Better Place Australia.
Today in addition to being our CFO, he is a non-executive director or advisor to several companies. Antony also serves in a number of not for profit roles including as Chairman of AUSiMED after recently retiring as a Director of Nucleus Networks on its sale by Baker IDI and as Treasurer of The Australia Israel Chamber of Commerce.
How long have you been in Real Estate?
Bought first property in 1983. Have worked in the industry now for four years.
What aspect of Real Estate are you an expert in, or what aspect are you most proud of that you do?
I am a numbers person – I do the investment arithmetic on every idea and property.
What is the strangest/nicest/most interesting thing you have had to deal with, in your Real Estate career?
Selling a property just as the last Australian recession was biting with a single bid at the auction – the bid was 15% above the reserve. Thank you very much!!!
What is the most interesting non-Real Estate job you have ever had, and what about that job has helped you most in your current Real Estate role?
Project Managing Margaret Thatcher’s energy reform program. Staying cool under pressure.
What is the one piece of advice you would give a new Landlord/Vendor/Tenant/Client?
Buy well. There is no substitute for doing the homework to achieve this.
